Overview

The California State Railroad Museum would like to thank the Garcias and Camozzis for participating in this oral history project. Their stories help the Museum preserve the history of railroads and the people whose lives make that history so rich and diverse.

The project includes interviews with the Garcia children (now adults) who grew up in a railroad family. Because their father worked as a Maintenance of Way foreman, the family at times lived in boxcars and section houses along the railroad. The interviews explore their relationships with their parents, experiences growing up on the railroad, life in a boxcar, and the family’s transition into suburban living.

Interviews: Jesse Garcia, Mary Camozzi, and Richard Garcia
